Professional Background
In the positions of service, project, and sales engineer, and General Manager, Mr. Avci worked for thirty-six years in many different sectors including pulp and paper, food, pharma and chemical industries, as well as infrastructure utilities belonging to Energy and Water works.
While studying in Yıldız Technical University, he worked as a part time Trainee Engineer in Ülker Confectionary factory for two years. There he was first learning basics for control and electrical works needed for the industry, as well as learning about raw material processing, packing, and Material conveying.
After graduation in year 1987, Mr. Avci joined the AEG Elektrik in Istanbul, to work for AEG Drives and Automation subsidiary in Frankfurt-Germany. His mission was to carry on a large Crane projected to be installed in 4 Sea Ports in Turkey. AEG in this project was a member of the consortium with the German Krupp Company and a Crane builder from Turkey.
The aim of this 35 Million USD project was to improve the capacity Turkish ports by adding 37 container cranes to the existing capacities. He worked in the field as a commissioning and start-up engineer as well as AEG site engineer of the project. In the beginning of the project, Mr. Avcı had a two months training in AEG Frankfurt facilities on the Electronic Control systems and general Electric and Mechanical parts of the cranes.
After 2 years with AEG, and upon finalization of the project, Mr. Avcı joined in year 1989 another electromechanical company, ABB Turkey as a project and sales engineer. As a first step in the ABB Group, Mr. Avci had long training courses in Germany and Sweden on ABB products ranging from Electronic Controllers up to a complete electro mechanic system. Mr. Avcı had also several management trainings as well as participating in almost all ABB sales conferences in Europe.
Throughout his services in ABB, Mr. Avci was many times a member of a team of ABB international staff to prepare ABB bids for different large-scale projects, as well as to sell ABB systems, ABB equipment and products to different customers.
While working in ABB Istanbul, Mr. Avcı, was working together with ABB Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Finland. Part of Mr. Avcı’s works was also to prepare activity report, sales forecast, and monthly, quarterly and annual sales budgets.
In the beginning of 1990, Mr. Avcı was appointed to be a member of a team working on a large-scale paper mill Automation project in ABB France for three months. After this mission, Mr. Avci was appointed as an Assistance Manager for ABB Service in Turkey. Mr. Avcı and his team, composed of 6 experienced engineers and 2 skilled technicians, were responsible for the sustainability of large size electromechanical systems installed by ABB in Turkey.
In ABB Service, Mr. Avci’s part of his position was to coordinate the Sales and Marketing, signing the Service Contracts with the customers, preparing the training program for his staff as well as client’s maintenance staff. Part of Mr. Avci’s work was also controlling the account of the Service team, budgeting the sales and reporting the periodical activities.
Mr. Avci in both AEG and ABB has gained a wide experience in sales and marketing, project design and management and fieldwork. He has developed many tools for project management, sales and marketing. Moreover, while his professional work, Avci had always one eye in the business development, guided both by new techniques and long run strategies.
Mr. Avci left ABB in the beginning of 1992 to start the company Piomak in May the same year. While one aim was to be an entrepreneur investor in Electromechanical Engineering and Contracting; the other one was to end up establishing a European group of companies serving the region.
Since 1992, Mr. Avci had managed Piomak which had till of today completed more than 100 projects in Turkey as well as in East Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
Even though all the project completed by Piomak till 1999 was achieved in the Industrial sector, up to date projects was all completed by Piomak in the infrastructure projects intended for Energy and Water works.
